Take half an hour out of your day and watch this fantastic three-part documentary about King Creosote's tour of the northern reaches and far-flung islands of Scotland in the Autumn of last year. It's called – it's a zinger! – Spinal Turps. And as Max Boyce used to say, swinging a leek and a toy dragon round his head at workingmen's clubs as he reminisced about Welsh rugby victories, I was there – interviewing the lovely Kenny Anderson, the King himself, for The Word back in October. I never thought I could have so much fun eating Doritos and bantering over warm beers as a rickety van whisked us hairily around Inverness and the Isle Of Lewis. But have fun I did.
This is part 1 of the documentary, featuring Edd Westmacott's Wicker Man-style standing stones photo shoot in relentless rain. Click here for part 2 (look out for merciless takeover of a karaoke night in Stornoway in which I was a beery participant) and here for part 3 (in which I make a dazzling, Oscar-worthy cameo appearance at 6 minutes 21 seconds). And if you've never fallen in love with Kenny's beautiful songs before, listen to each live song, and you will now.
